what is the highest value for the determinant of a 2*2 symmetric matrix with the trace value of 10 ?

The best possibility for the diagonal elements of the 2*2 matrix with the trace value equal to 10 is 5&5. As the matrix should be symmetric the other two elements should be least identical values i.e., 0&0. Therefore determinant = (5*5)-(0*0) = 25
